Use Kacho Sen to contest Ryu's Hadoken from a distance, but remain cautious of his Denjin-charged fireballs which travel much faster.

Ryu possesses a very reliable Shoryuken; use Mai's wall jumps and aerial stalls to bait the move rather than jumping directly at him.

In neutral, utilize Mai's long-reaching standing heavy punch to poke Ryu from outside his comfortable medium-range buttons.

Use Mai's slide move to go under Ryu's high-flying Hadokens if you read his projectile timing correctly at mid-range.
